Family attends dedication after overcoming obstacles

About a year ago, nobody would have thought George Burnett would be attending the Alberta Temple dedication - he was sent home from the hospital to die. But Brother Burnett, who suffers from a brain tumor, has surprised physicians, friends and family. And he, his wife Patricia, and others credit the blessings of the Lord with keeping him going.

"He has surprised everybody," explained Sister Burnett. "His doctor says he doesn't know why he is alive and why he's so well." Because of the tumor, the left side of Brother Burnett's body is paralyzed, and he spends much of his time in a wheelchair. The Burnetts, members of the Medicine Hat 3rd Ward, Taber Alberta Stake, have been making progress toward the goal of being sealed in the temple. They, along with their daughter, Andrea, 8, traveled about 150 miles from Medicine Hat to attend the dedication on June 22.

"The Lord knows there's something for me to do, and Pat and I being sealed is one of those things," Brother Burnett reflected after the session. "I guess bearing my testimony is one of those things, too. I know the power of prayer."

The couple said much faith, prayer and priesthood blessings have sustained them through their ordeal.

They attended the open house prior to the dedication, where volunteers helped carry Brother Burnett through parts of the temple in his wheelchair.

The Burnetts said they take "each day as it comes," and that they are working closely with their bishop to make their temple dreams a reality in the not-too-distant future.
