The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has identified the site location for the Maceió Brazil Temple.
The location was released Monday, March 6, on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
President Russell M. Nelson announced a temple for Maceió, Brazil, on April 3, 2022 — one of 17 temple locations identified during April 2022 general conference.
Additional information and details for this house of the Lord — including exterior rendering and information about groundbreaking — will be released at a later date.
Maceió Brazil Temple
The Maceió Brazil Temple — being designed as a single-story temple of approximately 19,000 square feet — will be built at Avenida Dr. Durval de Góis Monteiro, S/N, Quadra 0522, Lote 0228.
Maceió is the capital and the largest city of the coastal state of Alagoas, Brazil, with the port city known for its natural attractions and cultural diversity. The closest temple to Latter-day Saints in Maceió currently is the Recife Brazil Temple, located in the neighboring state of Pernambuco.
Nearly 1.5 million Latter-day Saints reside in Brazil, comprising more than 2,100 congregations. Missionary work first began in Brazil in 1928; 50 years later, the country’s first temple — the São Paulo Brazil Temple — was dedicated.
Brazil now is home to nine dedicated and operating temples, which are located in Belém, Campinas, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The Brasília Brazil Temple is completed and has been scheduled for its open house and dedication later this year, with another temple in Salvador under construction.
Beside the planned house of the Lord of Maceió, six more temples have been announced and are in planning and development stages — in Belo Horizonte, Londrina, Ribeirão Preto, Santos, São Paulo East and Vitória. The site location for the latter was announced just a week ago.
